A cable park is a widely consolidated concept worldwide. This solution consists of installing an overhead cable that is pulled by a driving force (electric motor), which provides a constant movement and allows continued practice. These systems are usually installed on the banks of natural or artificial lakes, rivers or streams and even in coastal areas. There are basically two types of systems: the “Full Cable” system, circular, where the cable rotates supported on 3 or more metal towers, allowing several practitioners to be pulled simultaneously, distributed along the cable; and the “Two Tower System", linear, where the cable has a constant reciprocating movement, normally pulling only one practitioner at a time. WPA Wake Park is a “Two Tower” system.
All the basic gear needed to safely practice wakeboard can be provided by WPA. However, you can bring your own gear.
The use of an appropriate vest and helmet is mandatory.
In addition to this safety gear, you only need a wakeboard with the corresponding bindings
During winter seasons, it is mandatory to wear a neoprene wetsuit. We advise you to bring your own towel and swimsuit, to use under the wetsuit.
Before you start practicing wakeboard, it is good to have an idea of your most comfortable position on the board.
A so-called "regular" position means that the left foot is in front. A so-called "goofy" position means that the right foot is ahead. If you have tried a similar sport, such as skateboarding, you should already have an idea of your favorite position.
Regardless of the way you choose to start, when you feel more comfortable with wakeboarding, you can start switching between the two stances.
Since our cable park is a two-tower system, the rider will have to turn at the end of the cable park to invert direction. In case the rider has a regular board stance, he will turn to his left. If the rider has a goofy stance, he will turn to his right.
(for clarification on the type of position on the board see the previous question)
To be able to turn at the end of the course without interrupting the movement, you must just be able to ride comfortably and follow the following steps:
1. Approach the end of the course through the center of the lake (continuous orange line in the image below);
2. After a few meters pass the obstacles, start to gradually curve out of the center (continuous orange line);
3. Stop leaning by centering the weight on the board, but keeping the intention of going in the direction of the dashed orange line;
4. Allow the cable system to guide you through the blue line;
To make the turn correctly, try to avoid the followingmost common mistakes:
1. Approach the turn outside the obstacles (red line in the image);
2. Try to lean throughout the orange line, without centering the weight on the board in the dashed portion (part where you should only glide);
3. Trying to force the blue line turn. Instead, you should let the cable system guide you through the blue line itself;
The cable park features are obstacles that are on the water, along the wakeboarding course, allowing practitioners to perform stylish maneuvers. Its use is only allowed by experienced riders or during duly supervised learning sessions. Before you start to use the obstacles, you should be aware of the respective rules and restrictions for their use in the "Cable Park Rules" section.
